Pinnacle Quilters of San Benito County, California
From a machine applique with fusible bias workshop Scarlett taught on October 22, 2008 in Hollister, California
Using a dark blue background, this student made her bias from lighter colored prints. |
This Celtic basket block features a plaid cut on the diagonal as the large inset patch. |
Kim Hushbeck used two different fabrics for her insets and rearranged the flowers to create this beautiful pillow. |
Julee Maggiora also hand basted her block, since she wants to hand applique it instead of doing machine applique. |
Sheila Galindo's Celtic basket block, made with a whimsical fabric selection. |
One student brought in her other Celtic projects to share. This small wallhanging isn't completely finished, but you can see how it will look when its done. |
Here's another project from the same student, who made this pillow using designs from Beth Ann Williams' book, Celtic Quilts. |

Workshop held in Chico, California for Annie's Star Quilt Guild
Here are some pictures of the basket blocks from this machine applique workshop, held on September 2, 2005.
The flowers haven't been stitched to these blocks yet! Everyone did get all their bias tape ironed down, ready for machine applique, with many having much of the machine stitching completed by the end of the workshop. Directions for the flowers to be done with freezer paper were included with the pattern given to each student.

Celtic Basket with Machine Embroidered Flowers
23 1/2" square - 2002
Scarlett experimented with adding machine embroidery to my Celtic designs. This wallhanging has the most basic basket design from Scarlett's book Baskets: Celtic Style and flowers from the Monica's Miscellany machine embroidery collection called Simply Crewel. This quilt was sent to Japan as a present, since it turned out very well!
Celtic Basket with Machine Embroidered Flowers II
23 1/2" square
Here's the second wallhanging that Scarlett made with the combination of machine embroidery and iron on fusible bias tape. It also went to Japan as a present!
