Finished Size: 42” square quilt
Fabric and supplies needed:
30” or 7/8 yd (76 cm) square of background fabric for cranes
1 1/4 yd (114 cm) for border
1/2 yd (46 cm) for binding
1 1/4 yd (114 cm) for backing
45” sq (114 cm) of batting
1/2 yd (46 cm) of printed cotton fabric for making fusible bias tape for three cranes
1 roll of silver metallic fusible bias for contrast bias in cranes
or substitute 1/4 yd (23 cm) gray cotton or cotton lame´ fabric to make your own fusible bias tape
3 rolls (5 1/2 yds each) of fusible bias tape
or 1/2 yd (46 cm) fabric to make your own bias to outline the water’s edge and to place beside the binding.
1/4” (6 mm) fusible bias tape maker
1 roll of 5mm fusible web (2 rolls if doing all your own tape)
Mini iron or small iron, with ironing pad
Rotary cutter, ruler and mat
Bias design paper or see-through non-stick sheet
15” sq. (38 cm) of freezer paper or large piece of plain paper
Here are some blocks by students who have taken the Interlaced Crane workshop. This is the medium sized crane from the pattern, At the Water's Edge.
This block features fusible bias made from a light colored batik.
This crane was modified by the student because she wanted it to have more graceful looking feet and a pointed beak. When she appliques the bias, she will trim and tuck the folded excess tape ends that show in this picture.
This crane was made with two different light colored batiks.
