Designed by Lina Tam, this 47" square applique quilt features Fu, one of the most popular Chinese New Year characters. This kanji traditionally means happiness and blessings, with good fortune and good luck having been added to its meaning in modern times. Fu usually appears as a cultural symbol to express people's wishes for the coming New Year and Fu can be written many ways, with four of those different kanji used in this quilt.
The instructions in this pattern are for fusible machine applique, with some instructions for freezer paper applique by hand offered for the flower designs. Layout diagrams are given for piecing the top and full size pattern sheets are included for the kanji.
